The USLTHC Department of Anesthesia is formed of:

1. Anesthesia Unit and Intensive Care Unit: -Connaught
2. Anesthesia Unit and High Dependency Unit: – PCMH
3. Anesthesia Unit and Intensive Care Unit: – SL- Chinese Friendship Hospital, Jui

The department’s task can be divided into four (4) areas of activity:

• Service delivery: daily Anesthesia and ICU/HDU service delivery to allow routine and emergency surgery to take place and to manage critically ill patients.
• Quality improvement: Continuous teachings/job training.
• Education & Research: Mainstay of the Teaching Hospital. This includes Post graduate training of Residents in Anesthesia, teaching and training of Nurse Anesthetists and Technicians, teaching and examination of Medical Students.
• Support for Anesthesia Services in remote areas: Support to Nurse Anesthetists working in provincial hospitals through supervisory visits, and continuous professional development.
