Nursing Department/Matrons Office

The Nursing Department makes up about 60% of the workforce at Connaught Hospital, with a total number of 297 pin coded staff. Most are volunteers without pin-codes.

This department plays a key role in the functioning of services and healthcare service delivery. This department also coordinates and collaborates with other units in providing and promoting quality health care services at the Connaught Hospital.

Successes

  1. Mentoring and supportive supervision by the Matrons office.
  2. Daily briefing from night nurses and team ongoing – daily statistics regarding admission, death transfer and discharges etc.
  3. Attendance monitoring of day and night nurses is ongoing.
  4. Organize monthly meetings for In-charges and other Senior Nurses to map out strategies on how to address problems in their various departments.
  5. Student placement continues from all round the country, they are mentored and monitored.
  6. Kings Sierra Leone Partnership – Help with training, SLEWS, and strict monitoring of student on placement.
  7. Nutrition Unit – The office of the matron is working closely with the nutrition department in giving update on patients on special diet.
  8. Psychosocial Unit – Nurses are the focal persons that manage cases in the unit.
  9. IPC Unit – Monitoring of IPC activities in the wards and in-house training on Infection Prevention Control.
  10. Collaboration and team work is on-going.
